In short
We visit your home or workplace in and around Dartford to take a blood sample for a test that has already been ordered, for example a private home-test kit that needs a sample from a vein. A qualified healthcare professional takes the sample, labels it and packages it exactly as your test provider instructs, so it is ready to go to their laboratory.
Who this is for
- Private home-test kits that need a sample from a vein rather than a finger prick
- People who find finger-prick kits difficult, or who have tried and not managed to fill the tube
- Anyone who would rather not travel to a clinic, including people who are busy, nervous of needles or less mobile
- Requests from private clinics or consultants that need a sample taken elsewhere
NHS blood tests
If your request form came from your GP or a hospital, please ask us before booking. NHS samples have to reach NHS laboratories by specific routes, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help or whether your surgery is the better option.
Getting ready for your visit
- Follow any instructions from your test provider about fasting or the time of day the sample should be taken
- Drink some water beforehand unless you have been told not to; it usually makes veins easier to find
- Wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily
- Have your kit, request form and any paperwork ready
How it works
Get in touch
Call or WhatsApp us with the test you have, your postcode and a few times that suit you.
We confirm
We agree a time and remind you of any preparation your test needs.
The visit
We check your details, take the sample, and make sure you feel fine before we leave.
Packaged and ready
Your sample is labelled and packaged to your test provider’s instructions so it can go to their lab.
Who it may not be suitable for
This is not a complete list. We check suitability at your consultation and will tell you if a treatment is not right for you.
- We cannot take samples for a test that has not been ordered; if you need a test, see our blood tests page
- Tell us if you have fainted during blood tests before, so we can make sure you are lying down or well supported
- Tell us if you take blood-thinning medicine, as we may need to apply pressure for longer afterwards
Home Blood Draws: common questions
Can you take blood for a kit I bought online?
Usually yes, if the kit is designed for a sample taken from a vein. Send us the name of the test when you get in touch and we will confirm.
How long does a home blood draw take?
The sample itself only takes a few minutes. We allow time to check your details, settle you comfortably and make sure you feel well afterwards.
Who sends the sample to the lab?
We package the sample following your test provider’s instructions. Confirm whether The IVy posts or couriers samples, or the client does.
